Project Space 240 Church was created in 2010 by then-MFA student Robert Dimin.
Dimin created Project Space to provide a community-based art space for his peers at the University of Pennsylvania to share and showcase their art. Project Space was conceived and designed to spark a dialogue between Penn artists and the art community in Greater Philadelphia. As a result, gallery space was selected in Old City Philadelphia, a community four miles from the University and a center for Philadelphia's small art exhibits.
The gallery space was leased and open for shows within a 45-day time period. Seven separate exhibitions were created and run over a span of eight months. All exhibits were open to the public and included in Philadelphia's First Friday arts program in Old City with individual event attendance of hundreds of people.
Project Space 240 Church was closed after Dimin and colleagues completed their MFA degrees programs and relocated to other cities across the U.S. A model has been created to continue the program for future generations of students. In the interim, Dimin continues the spirit of Project Space. His first solo effort was a pop-up exhibition in Soho during the summer of 2011.
